The Madrona Tech Lab consists of 30+ iMac and eMac desktop computers, 3 laptops computers and variety of digital cameras, microphones, several mixers, a titler, (music) keyboard and a host of other broadcast production equipment. Madrona's computer lab receives a majority of its funding from our M.I.T. The excess funds levy of 2008 was used to purchase a full sized teleprompter for use in the weekly MMB. All computer stations are equipped with virtually identical software packages including industry standard software such as iLife Suite, Office 2004, and Photoshop Elements 4, Kidspiration, Inspiration, Comic Life and various free utilities which run on OS X.
Our lab is available to all K-8 classes on a sign-up basis throughout the school year. Centers may elect to bring their students to the lab for instruction from the classroom teacher. Media Technology (a new course for 2010-11, a result of elective reductions) is a year-long elective open to Middle School students. Course content will be determined by student interest, experience and teacher facilitation. Check back throughout the year to see the curriculum unfold and view student work posted to the web.
Requirements:
Middle School instruction is guided by The National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) and Edmonds' Technology Literacy Standards (PDF). Additionally, there are Technology Integration Standards for teachers (PDF). Again this year, schools will be asked to report what percentage of their eighth grade students are technologically literate in each of the three Tiers of Technology Literacy (PDF).
